Brad & Big Rich's Cajun Chef's Cookoff was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to give back to those in need. Since its inception, this family-oriented event has grown into a community staple, bringing together food lovers, music fans, and anglers for a weekend of good times and good deeds. Created by Brad Vratis of Stingaree Restaurant, Rich Courville of Courville’s Catering, and David Harris of Bolivar LIVE, the event has weathered its fair share of challenges, including unpredictable Gulf Coast weather, but has always emerged stronger and more successful. Over the years, proceeds from the event have supported a variety of non-profits and individuals, including those facing critical medical challenges. For 2024, all funds raised will benefit two deserving causes: Gear Up For Game Wardens and the Gregory Park Revitalization project in Crystal Beach, Texas. These initiatives will ensure that the legacy of giving continues, making a tangible difference in the local community. This year’s event kicks off on Friday, October 11th, 2024 at Stingaree Restaurant, 6pm-11pm with the Calcutta for the Saltwater Slam Fishing Teams and Cajun Cookoff Teams. Then, on Saturday, October 12th, 2024, Slawater Fishing Team leave the dock at 6am, and from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the main event—the Cajun Chef's Cookoff—will take center stage at Stingaree Restaurant (1295 N. Stingaree Rd, Crystal Beach, Texas). Up to 20 of the best Cajun cooking teams from across the region will showcase their culinary skills, vying for top honors in categories including Bloody Marys, Seafood Gumbo, and Chef’s Choice. Esteemed judges will determine the winners, but the public will also have their say, voting for the coveted People’s Choice Award. Sample cups will be available for purchase, giving attendees the chance to savor some of the finest Cajun dishes and life-changing Bloody Marys. As the aroma of simmering gumbo fills the air, Cajun music will set the tone for a day of laid-back fun with family and friends. The event promises an authentic Cajun experience, blending great food, lively tunes, and a welcoming atmosphere.
