CT’s Texas Slam began as a tribute to Chase Taylor, who was killed in a tragic accident in 2017. Many times, while fishing for that “Big Red” in East Bay off Bolivar Peninsula, Chase would often joke with his fishing buddy, “Let’s get all our friends together, have a fishing tournament, and take their money.” It made sense, then, to everyone who loved Chase, that a wonderful way to keep his memory and spirit close would be to hold just such a tournament. Many people who knew and loved Chase joined efforts, outpouring their love, generosity, and resources to make that happen not only to remember Chase, but also to positively impact God’s creation. The first tournament was a great success and had a tremendous impact. Last year’s event double in fishing teams, with an outpouring of community support, hundreds of people came together to enjoy a day of food, fun, fellowship, games, a silent auction, and live music; and the event raised both funds and awareness for Chase Right Choices.
