Weekly fishing report ending Feb 2nd, East Galveston Bay

Typical for this time of year, another mild cold front pushed thru this week, and brought with it rain and some strong North winds, however; water temperatures remained in the low to mid 50’s. By Saturday the wind had switched back out of the East / Southeast and the water was looking good once again, with air temperatures in the 60’s. As the day progressed, the winds increased and were in the 12 -20 mph range for the most part, with a few higher gusts. We fished a number of areas, where we had been finding good numbers of fish and we just could not get them to bite, as we moved 5 times, before we figured them out around 11:15 am, after the incoming tide began to roll in. The Trout were positioned around the inside mouth of drains and were hanging in deeper cuts close to wind-protected shorelines. We were able to manage one flounder in the same area. The bite was non-stop for several hours, with good solid size trout with the largest being at 20”. We utilized 1/4 oz heads with Down South tails (Glow/Chartreuse) as well as Gulp Swimming Mullet (Pearl White/Chartreuse) to land all our fish. The Winter months are a great time to catch good numbers of fish on artificial lures and enjoy the beautiful outdoors with fewer crowds, so hit me up and let's schedule getting our line stretched on East Galveston Bay.
