Weekly fishing report ending April 20 – Captain Jeff Brandon

Surface water temperatures are now in the low 70’s, and water clarity is getting better by the day. We had a few days with North Winds, but for the most part we had winds from the East to Southeast most of the time, with gusts up to 20mph. We fished artificial and live bait trips this week, and depending upon the day and time, the bite was anywhere from finicky to jerk the rod out of your hand, so it made for some great times on East Galveston Bay. This week, we had our best trips in the late afternoon, when we had lots of water and a strong incoming tide. We had a couple of days where every spot we fished produced for us and resulted in some awesome catching for some great fishers. We fished ¼ oz jig heads and the Blue Moon color seemed to trigger some great action for us. The Topwater Bite has been on fire for us the past few days, resulting in our bigger fish and some great action, that helped make some great memories for our clients. Most of our catching this week was on Flats and in and around shell on the protected shorelines. We released all of our solid trout over 20”, as we desperately need to get our population of larger trout replenished as it was 10 years or so ago.

If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay.
