Weekly fishing report ending March 2, 2023

This week the fog has been thick and has been burning off around 10am or so. Surface water temperature mid 60’s to low 70’s, and water clarity good. Winds generally out of the South/Southwest/Southeast from 8 to 11 mph. Mosquitos this week were on the scale of brutal to unbearable, depending upon the wind speed, direction, and how close you are to the marsh. MarshLand Spray has been the best for us so far, and we tend to use about a can or so in the morning on the water. Mornings water levels have been low and provided us with incoming tides till early afternoon. We have been starting on the South Shorelines on flats that are well-protected and closer to deeper drains. The baitfish have been thick this week, but most of our bites have been coming in areas where we did not see such a large concentration of bait. We have been having to fish in several areas to catch our fish and most of our success for speckled trout up to 18” has still been coming in and close proximity to the deeper cuts. We were, however, able to find some flounder up on a flat, and managed one black drum over 11 pounds on a mid-bay reef. Fish were caught on 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz heads with Down South tails, with most of the fish preferring Limetreuse in the standard size. We were able to coerce a few on tails with a popping cork, but most were smaller fish.

All in all now is a great time to get out and enjoy God’s Beauty on Galveston Bay. Until Next Time – Captain Jeff Brandon – Get the Net Guide Services, LLC – Year-Round Fishing Guide
