The High Island Volunteer Fire Department (HIVFD) has been proudly serving the High Island community and the eastern end of the Bolivar Peninsula since 1974. Founded by dedicated local residents, the department was established to provide essential fire protection, emergency response, and rescue services in this remote and vital part of Galveston County.

HIVFD responds to a wide variety of emergencies, including structure fires, wildfires, vehicle accidents, and medical calls. As a key part of Galveston County Emergency Services District #2 (ESD #2), the department also assists with disaster response and hurricane preparedness, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in a region often impacted by tropical weather.

Located near key ecological areas and the intersection of multiple evacuation routes, the High Island Volunteer Fire Department plays an essential role not just in emergency response, but also in community safety education, storm readiness, and mutual aid across the peninsula and neighboring counties. Staffed by trained volunteers, HIVFD remains a strong symbol of community commitment, resilience, and service.
