Surface water temps in the low 70’s, water clarity 6 to 12” in most places in East Bay. Winds have been across the board from North to Northwest, South to Southeast, and South to Southwest, depending upon the day and speeds anywhere from 10 to 20 mph, with higher gusts. Early in the week we started out fishing flats outside the mouths and pinch points of the marsh and found good numbers of trout and managed to pick off a couple of redfish as well. Our best trips have been in the afternoon when tide levels are high. Most of our catching has been in and around areas where we see a good amount of nervous bait activity. We fished after the front yesterday and the fish we found had moved back into the deeper channels and in the lower part of the water column, including trout and flounder. All our trips this week were fishing artificial lures, with ¼ oz jig heads and the color blue moon produced the best for us overall. The topwater bite was not as good as we experienced last week, and the artificial under a popping cork yielded a few trout, but more gafftop, which was not the targeted species. We fished a mid-bay reef as well with only a couple bites, and due to the wind, did not venture out to any others. Now that May is here the fishing will only continue to get better for us in the Galveston Bay system.
