Weekly fishing report ending April 6 – Captain Jeff Brandon

We had our typical weather for this time of year, early in the week a front pushed thru, with strong North winds, pushing the water out of the bay and muddying up the water. As the week progressed the warming trend took place and the water cleaned up nicely, and made for some nice conditions to get on the fish. Surface water temperatures are now getting up in the low 70’s and fishing is picking up, as we get into our Spring patterns. We were able to catch fish on live shrimp under a popping cork, with the leader being 18 to 24”. We have also done quite well fishing a 1/8 oz head and DownSouth tail under a popping cork and landed a number of Solid Trout, as well as black drum and a few nice Slot reds. On our artificial-only trips, we have been using topwaters, and Jigheads with tails, and over the last couple of days the White Ice has been the winner, landing both solid trout and keeper-size reds. Most of our fish came this week on an incoming tide, fishing drains, and the flats around the areas protected from the wind, where we could find good bait activity.
If you are looking to get out on the water and beat the crowds, now is the perfect time to make it happen, and as always, we will design a trip around your expectations, and guarantee you will have a great time fishing Galveston Bay.
