Weekly fishing report ending March 9, 2023 – Captain Jeff Brandon

After the storms blew through on Thursday evening, and the winds subsided the weather stabilized, which made for some wonderful days to be on the water. Outdoor temps started in the lower 60’s with highs in the lower 70’s for the most part. Surface water temperatures mid 60’s to low 70’s, and water stained. Winds generally out of the East, 7 to 15mph. Morning water levels have been extremely low and outgoing strong tides made it ever more critical to know your way around the bay. This week with the strong outflowing tides, we have been starting on the outside edges of drains. When we were able to find nervous baitfish, we were able to locate and catch fish consistently. This week we have found good numbers in a couple of areas, therefore reducing our running around and gas burning of recent weeks. Fish were caught on 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz heads with Down South tails, with most of the fish preferring Limetreuse in the standard size, although purple reign did quite well. We used a number of other artificials, but the jighead-tail combo was the overall winner for bites and quality reds and trout.

All in all now is a great time to enjoy God’s Beauty on Galveston Bay.
