New For 2018, Weekly Galveston Bay and Jetty/Offshore Fishing Reports!

Weekly Galveston Bay and Galveston Jetty and Offshore Fishing report, February 14 2018 Fishing Report

Galveston East Bay- Capt. Ronnie Scheck- CrystalBeachFishing.com

Well, not much to report in East Galveston Bay. With cold fronts every few days, the weather along the upper Texas coast has been awful. I did get out mid-day last Friday. The water condition was good but the water temperature is still in the mid 50's so the fish are still sluggish but I did manage to pick up 8 nice keeper trout on bay reefs along the south shoreline. I was throwing Morning Glory colored shrimp tails. There are a lot of small shrimp along the pilings in front of my house - about 1/2 inch in length. When they get a little bigger, they will head out of the canals and marsh drains and on to the shorelines and bay reefs. So we just need some warmer weather and some time for the shrimp to mature. It won't be long and the fish will bust wide open.

Until next time, see you on the water.

Fishing Galveston at spring Break is a great way to spend a day outdoors. These trips are family friendly and really laid back. This time of year we really target fish that are readily available, eager to eat, pull hard and taste great. Often called bay snapper, the sheephead is a great fighter, always hungry and the expression when kids see their ugly mug is great. A bonus to these fish is that you can take them to several restaurants on the island or on Bolivar peninsula and have it cooked for you! The other fish that get the nod this time of year is the black drum. 40-50 lb fish are common. It’s a great way for kids and adults get to experience pulling a Volkswagen off the bottom without going offshore. Most of these are over the 30” max legal length so a quick pic and back in the water. As a bonus we usually catch bull reds too. If the drum is the Volkswagen of the sea, the bullred is the Ferrari with reel screaming runs, they will test your skills. Book now before the best days are gone!
