CT’s Texas Slam began as a tribute to Chase Taylor who was killed in a tragic accident in 2017. Many times while fishing for that Big Red on Bolivar bay, Chase would often joke with his fishing buddy, “Let’s get all our friends together, have a fishing tournament and take their money”. The outpouring of many people who knew and loved Chase joined efforts to make that happen. The first tournament was a great success and for such a great cause in 2018. There were over 20 fishing teams and boats as well as hundreds of people to enjoy the day of food, fun, fellowship, games, silent auction and music.
Together, with the support of an Executive Committee, many other hard-working volunteers, the support of the community, this annual benefit will be held every second Saturday in October on the Bolivar Peninsula. Proceeds from this event go to support Chase Right Choices, a 501(c) 3 that funds scholarships, outreaches and supports “ Seabatical of Hope” a retreat for mothers who have lost children.
